What’s Bugging YOU! Lucky Interviews You!! The South African Youth!!
What’s on young people’s minds, and what do they care about? To answer these questions, and for the Bokamoso Ba Rona Youth Campaign to truly reflect YOUR views, we had to go to the source… young people themselves! So we conducted a survey on MXiT, through community youth organisations and through our ambassadors, in order to find out exactly what’s on your mind… And almost 54 500 of you responded! This is a great sign that young people want to have their voices heard!
This Survey targeted all young people between the ages of 12 and 25 years old of all races, sexes and backgrounds, all over South Africa! On behalf of Parliament, Lucky asked you what you thought, and these are the answers you as the “Collective South African Youth” have given!

ON ATTITUDES TOWARDS SOUTH AFRICA
Lucky: Complete this sentence – In five year’s time, I think South Africa will…
SA Youth: Get Better (75% of you)
ON YOUR SOCIAL CHALLENGES
Not surprising, when asked about your personal issues according to age group, your answers were different, because of course, you all have different needs and issues affect you differently! Young people in your age group answered as follows:
12 – 15 year olds: Crime (25%)
16 – 20 year olds: Education (28%)
21 – 25 year olds: Finding Work (54%)
On this question, youth were unanimous on their top concern for the country regardless of age!

ON FEELING EMPOWERED AND RESPONSIBLE TO BRING ABOUT CHANGE
Lucky: Do you feel like you could contribute to making South Africa better?
SA Youth: Yes! *Confidently!*(62% of you)
Some of you (about 32%) however, felt that even though you want to make a positive contribution, you were not sure how.
Lucky: Who is most responsible to make South Africa a better place?
Not only do you see yourselves as agents of change, but you also believe in a united effort to solving our country’s biggest problems!

ON YOUR PERCEPTIONS OF RACE RELATIONS
Lucky: In your own life, is skin colour a factor for you in determining who you socialize with?

IN SHORT
The principal challenges identified by South African youth according to the Bokamoso Ba Rona Survey were health, education, finding work and crime.
